We defeated Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida on November 20, 103-99. They were ranked #1 in our conference and #7 nationally in the NCCAA. This was a big upset!
I remember traveling to Lakeland to play Southeastern College. We lost a very good game. Troy Collins ended up in the hospital with a broken arm. That left us with five players to play a couple more games on that Holiday Basketball trip. Johnny Maust was our team manager, willing jumped in the play the next game. He shoot the lights out. They did not know we had him on the team.
Dave Monceau got a couple of guys to join us at Toccoa Falls to play in a tournement. Paul Talley and Bill Miller joined us for the rest of the year.
Basketball seems to be going better now days. Congratulations on the win.
Back in the day (early 80's -- graduated in '85), I remember getting to be the team manager, van driver, score keeper, etc. I really had a lot of fun and there were MANY great memories. Trust me, unlike Johnny Maust, I would have never come off the bench and made ANY baskets!! I couldn't shoot baskets if I had to do so for a grade or a million bucks :).
Living in Florida for the past 23 years has given me the opportunity to see a number of my students attend Southeatern in Lakeland...bet they have no clue my Alma Mater beat them. I will make sure to rub it in when they are home for breaK. I loved playing for SEBC...and Mr. Biddle I remember the season you were talking about. How is Troy doing by the way, I would love to catch up with him.
