Keeping you connected!

Eileen and I enjoy the beach. In fact, we're getting ready for some R & R at Myrtle in a couple weeks. Our youngest daughter just married an MK from Cambodia last month. We need to refresh and regroup. We didn't do that when our two older girls married within two months of each other in 2005. We lived to regret that!

Our next favorite get-away is to a Bed & Breakfast. Each one is unique.

Anytime we can get away in the Airstream with the dog is a great get-away. We enjoy camping and getting away from it all! Wish the grandsons would go, but they're too little still.

Chuck's folks were big into Airstream; in fact, the first time I met them, they were coming back from FL in the Airstream and stopped to hear a Chorale concert in Nashville. I'll tell you, it was with fear and trepidation that I stepped off that bus.

We had friends (long gone now) who had an Airstream. We fell in love with it. This is our third RV, but 1st Airstream. In addition to traveling, we use it with our work with Alabama Campers on Mission for building projects and as a place to stay at Talladega while working with Alabama Raceway Ministries.

We spent 8 weeks on the road this summer. Check out our blog at www.lastofthegreat48.blogspot.com. There is a slide show on the front featuring a male buffalo who charged our truck!

Mike and I love the mountains and the beach. Both of our birthdays are in Oct. So every year we go to Gatlinburg TN. for our birthdays. Mike is all ways off work the week of the 4th of July and that is beach week. We usually go the Panama City Beach, FL. But this past year we discovered Destin, FL. And we love it! It is SO MUCH nicer the PCB. Any time we can take a long weekend somewhere, Miss (our dog) is gone to her Mimi’s house.

Susan and I seldom have opportunity to "get away" by ourselves. With three daughters (two in college and one in H.S.) there is always something to do with them. A get away for us consists of having a free minute to espcape to a movie and dinner with just the two of us. Any time we have a chance to just be alone is a treasure. I know that there will be a day when we can only wish to have our daughters here with us, so I will never complain about it.

My husband and I love getting into Creation, so anytime we can escape to the outdoors is awesome. We do have a favorite little B&B down in South Haven, MI, that we love to escape to, too. It's called Martha's Vineyard, and it's just on the outskirts of South Haven, which is a beautiful little lakeshore town. We always say when we go to Martha's Vineyard that all we have to do is bring ourselves. They take care of the atmosphere and everything you need for a wonderful, romantic get-away.

We love the mountains, but our latest couple getaway was to explore a city new to both of us. We picked Seattle since we'd never been to the west coast of US. It really was a lot of fun to enjoy the culture very different than our home. We found a cheap but nice inn to stay at that was close to public transportation and some of the sites. We walked a lot and enjoyed the adventure together.

My wife and I go to a cabin in the fall at either Ten Killer Lake or GreenBrier Lake in eastern Oklahoma. Do a little fishing, watch the leaves turn and eat lake-caught big mouth bass....yum.

Our favorite places are Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans and other big cities we like to explore. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge in the mountains are high on the list, and Orlando is a favorite place because we have a daughter there (anywhere the kids live is our favorite place!). For those within driving distance to north Alabama, there is a bed and breakfast called "The Secret" with a view overlooking several states and Lake Weiss. The owners' son-in-law is a member of the Christian group "Mercy Me" and they are extremely friendly and great to stay with. I'm really not their paid spokesman, but we're big fans, and here is their site:
