I left SEBC and began moving to different places. Year or 3 after SEBC, I moved up north to Jersey, then P.A, then Baltimore, MD. This is where I met my wonderful wife Crystal. It's funny how I had to go out of state to meet my wife who is from Alabaster, AL and me from Montgomery,AL originally. I had been working for a swimming pool distribution company for the past 4 years and before moving up North I was working for a computer retail and repair shop in Montgomery. After being tired of working for the "Man" at the pool place, trying to make them rich and hurting my self doing it, I decided to go back to school to finally work on getting my Bachelors degree. I am currently working on my degree at Jeff state and will be moving on to Alabama hopefully. The Alabama part basically depends on if my wife gets accepted to Alabama for the PhD program. She is a Social Worker and wants to teach now that she has experience under her belt, if not Alabama then I'll probably go to University of Montevallo. I'm Majoring in Communications at the moment and working on a few classes for HTML and Graphic Arts. Figured both of those subjects are very high in demand in the workforce and it is something that I enjoy doing a lot.
We have not had any children yet but do hope to start on a family once we are done with school. If Gods' will is for us to have kids before hand, then that's OK with us.Well this is my story and I,m sticking to it!
Good question, Daniel! My husband and I spent three years (after I graduated, then got married) together in full-time Christian camping ministry in a small town in SW Michigan. We worked with their high ropes/low ropes/team-building program, led the internship program for two years, and directed many of the summer camps. The last four years, I've been working for a Christian publishing house here in Grand Rapids as their publicity and media manager. I work mainly with our authors and the media, playing a liaison between the two. Since my years at SEBC, I've gotten more into my writing and photography. I'm a big hiker now, too. Tony and I are expecting our first child in December (near Christmas)--a girl.
After we graduated from SEBC and got married (all in the same weekend!), we moved to Dallas, TX where Doug attended DTS and I taught 5th/6th grades at a Christian school. After three years, Doug's home church pursued him for the youth pastor position that had opened ... and God surprised us by opening all the doors (and my heart) to live in New Orleans. Although we moved to NOLA in the fall of 2002, Doug finished his thesis from here and graduated with his ThM the following spring. I've stayed home since Sam arrived in 03, followed by Zach in 05. Hurricane Katrina (05) seems to be the "real" reason God brought us here. God allowed us to connect many willing churches all over the US who wanted to help in New Orleans with local needy homeowners, schools, and communities. Those work teams have stayed at our church and Doug has facilitated most of this evolving hurricane recovery ministry. This fall (even tho 3 years after K) we expect many teams to visit us to continue to help rebuild lives here. Youth ministry has changed drastically from preKatrina to postKatrina as our group of students is rebuilding too. And, in the midst of all that, we've added Eli to our clan earlier this year. Life is never dull. It seems unbelievable that we're approaching the 10 year mark since we graduated from SEBC.
I'm still at SEBC! I'm the Alumni Director/PR and have been here again almost two years. Spent a 3 year sabbatical on the advertising field in Birmingham, AL. I work as a chaplain at Talladega Superspeedway for the NASCAR races, but would like to expand my ministry to the dirt tracks in the area. I have two grandchildren in the Atlanta area that I miss a lot (miss my daughter, too!) My son graduated from SEBC in 2005 and still lives in the Birmingham area. We travel by RV during the summer with our 12 pound mini-dachshund.
I graduated in 1979 and then started the grad school at SEBC, but did not finish. I then went to Fort Worth, Texas and started my M.Div at Soutwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Met my wife there, had my first child, a boy(Brenton), then finished up at SBTS. I pastored a small Baptist church in Warren, Arkansas for a couple of years, then moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and went to work at Tinker AFB as a computer programmer. We joined a small bible church and I became an elder and led music for the next 15 years. We had a daughter(Kylie) in 1988, then a son(Doug) in 1994. During that time I left Tinker, worked for Oracle Corporation for a year.
We lost our house May 3rd, 1999, at which time I started working for Hertz Corporation as a database administrator. Then, finally, I joined Seagate Technology LLC in OKC and am still there.
After Southeastern I moved to Dallas, TX and taught 4th grade and girl's P.E. in a Christian School. I met and married Ken Spaugh. (We found out we had met at Bible Memory Association Camp in Ringgold, Louisiana when I was 9 1/2 and he was 10!) We worked in our church in Dallas, then in 1984 helped start a sister church (Harry and Jerry Word were involved too.) During those years, Ken worked as a chemist, at Dallas Theological Seminary, with a private telephone company and with a pool cleaning business. Our four children (Erin, Drew, Kyle and Jayme) were born in Dallas. I was a stay-at-home mom and started home-schooling our children there. (I home-schooled for 20 years. My education degree from Southeastern came in handy!) In 1989 we joined CAM International and came to Guatemala as missionaries in 1990. (Our children were 11, 9, 6 and 3 at the time.) We have done several different ministries while here. Right now we are working with a church in Patzún - with Kakchiquel people. For 10 years I have attended a craft group (in Guatemala City) of neighborhood women to witness to them.
I've been teaching in Christian schools ever since my graduation in 1981. I taught 2nd grade for 5 yrs. in Tupelo, MS. I moved to Forrest City, AR for 1 yr where I taught 5th grade. I then moved to Stuggart, AR for 1 yr where I taught a combined class of K-3rd grade. I then moved back to Tupelo where I've been teaching 3rd grade. This is my 21st yr in my present school.
I am thankful for my education training from SEBC.
I graduated in 1982, I worked at Camp Chandler in Wetumpka, AL for the summer, then worked as minister of education in First Congregational Church in Phenix City, then Donna (Lawson, 1983) and I spent 11 years at Academia Los Pinares in Honduras as Spiritual Life Coordinator and Bible teacher. While in Honduras, the Lord blessed us with 3 children. After that, we went to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where I received a masters in CE. Since 1999, we have been working with the International Mission Board of the SBC as church planters in Ecuador. It has been great catching up on many old friends from SBC.
